Süleymanpaşa Municipality Service Building Architectural Project:

Süleymanpaşa Municipality is a municipality that was established in 2014 and serves 73 districts of Tekirdağ. Municipal units currently operate in several different buildings. The purpose of the municipality; to obtain a structure that provides more qualified service by gathering its units under a single roof. In addition, the nature, identity and relations of the building with the environment are also considered. For this purpose, the land where the Central Bus Station area, which can be easily accessed by the Istanbul-Tekirdağ Road, which is developing in parallel with the Marmara Sea, was determined. This region, which is close to the eastern entrance of itself, has a certain potential due to its proximity to the coast and neighboring public buildings around it.

LAND DATA

There is already a Bus Station Building and some add-ons in the field. Since the bus terminal and transportation structure have been dissolved in the land whose natural slope reaches 12m elevation differences, the area has been leveled by excavating and high retaining walls have been formed in the environment. The physical relationship with Karlık Street, which is located in the north of the land, was forced to be cut off, and the relationship with Şehit Yüzbaşı Mayadağlı Street was tried to be maintained by steep stairs. The structures that define the design area and perhaps the most important problem are the retaining walls. Retaining walls reduce the design area to a single facade and restrict building access from the upper levels. At this point, the design focuses on eliminating the access of existing retaining walls from different levels to the area and enabling access from every point.

 

URBAN CONTINUITY

A pedestrian spine was formed by improving the historical texture of Süleymanpaşa's city center and the route connecting this center to the design area, and this backbone was integrated with the square defined opposite the design area. The relationship between the square and the design area ended with the inclusion of the commercial units in the building on a linear axis and spreading to different levels. The fact that the commercial equipment is located at different elevations and allows the area to be included in the life day and night, and the opening of green courtyards at different elevations has caused it to turn into scale spaces. There are many social and cultural activities The way the purpose hall and nursery are articulated to the courtyards is also a continuation of the scaled life setup.

 

PUBLIC - ACCESSIBILITY

Municipal service buildings, which are the most intertwined with the public among public buildings, have started to come to the fore with their publicity in today's architectural practice. At this point, the design can be accessed from every point and this accessibility is commercial and sociological. It promises a publicity that supports it with cultural functions. The accessibility of the public spreading to different levels also succeeds in keeping the architectural tectonics of the building at human scale. For this reason, functions with heavy human traffic such as multi-purpose hall, dining hall, and parliament exist with the new floors created by the design. The main entrance square, which is formed with Şehit Yüzbaşı Mayadağlı Avenue and the ground floor at -12.00 level, - The social-cultural area at the 8.00 elevation, the ceremony and open event area at the -4.00 elevation are open spaces created at different elevations. These platforms are fed by the streets and commercial units that feed them, and they provide the use of the building from different elevations. With the help of these spaces, the boundaries that may arise in relation to the municipality building, which is an official building, are melted and the building is owned. The council structure, located at the -4.00 elevation, has an independent entrance, making it easier for people to use the assembly. With these qualities, an attempt has been made to design an inviting building that is open to urban residents, trying to establish positive relations with its scale and its surroundings.
